LET’S TALK ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY
In terms of environmental sustainability, there are many small actions that could be undertaken on a daily basis to limit waste, resources and pollution.
Everyone can contribute, within their possibilities, both among private individuals and companies.
As far as we as Torrefazione Caffè Lelli are concerned, the commitment is to keep alive the focus that has driven us since we opened in 1996: preferring small plantations and small families/cooperatives that favor quality over quantity in their countries of origin. This means, first of all, not exploiting the land and coffee plants, therefore preserving the territory by keeping the local biodiversity intact, without deforesting or exploiting the waterways.
The micro-lots we purchase come from rural areas surrounded by nature; if coffee plants do not need to increase yields per hectare, then cultivated land does not need to grow and no trees need to be cut down. As a result, waterways will be protected and, in turn, will continue to nourish forests. In our small way, we will continue to support this balance by turning to small plantations.
The packaging of our roasted products, both grain and ground, has been improving for around 10 years, thanks also to new discoveries in the packaging field. We have, in fact, chosen to lighten the packaging of the 250g ground products by eliminating the external cardboard casing; while for grain products, we have introduced smaller 500g packs, to avoid product waste, opting for a bag made of 100% recyclable plastic material. Our attention remains keen on new packaging which could, in the future, convince us to also package grains in 1000g packs, designed for the horeca world, without sacrificing freshness and aromas.
As regards shipments, we are careful to always use packaging at its maximum load capacity; for this reason, we have designed 3 different packaging sizes to adapt to the orders to be shipped more easily and with less waste. Our cardboard packaging supplier is FSC certified, for responsible forest management.
There are still many improvements to be implemented, but we will keep alive the commitment and attention to always grow in the field of sustainability.
